A tennis court is 78 feet (23.77 m) long for every match — what changes is the width: 27 feet (8.23 m) for singles and 36 feet (10.97 m) for doubles, thanks to the 4.5-foot alleys on each side. Court zones explained
The service boxes. Each side has two boxes of 21 × 13.5 ft between the net and the service line. The serve must bounce in the box diagonally opposite the server.
The doubles alleys. The 4.5 ft strips along each side. They are in play only during doubles — in singles the inner sideline rules.
The baseline. The back boundary, 39 ft (11.885 m) from the net. Its short center mark splits the deuce and ad sides for serving position.
The net. 3 ft high at the center and 3.5 ft at the posts, which stand 3 ft outside the doubles sidelines.
Surface and materials
Four official surface families: hard (acrylic over asphalt/concrete — used at the US Open and Australian Open), clay (Roland Garros), grass (Wimbledon) and artificial/carpet. Each surface changes ball speed and bounce, which is why playing styles differ so much across them.
