A pickleball court is a rectangle 20 feet wide and 44 feet long (6.10 × 13.41 m) — and unlike tennis, the same court is used for both singles and doubles. Its defining feature is the non-volley zone, better known as "the kitchen," a 7-foot band on each side of the net where you cannot hit the ball out of the air. Court zones explained
The non-volley zone ("the kitchen"). A 7 ft deep band spanning the full 20 ft width on each side of the net. You may not volley the ball (hit it before it bounces) while touching this zone or its lines.
The service courts. Each side has two service courts of 10 × 15 ft (right/even and left/odd), between the kitchen line and the baseline. The serve must land diagonally in the opposite service court, clearing the kitchen.
The net. Strung at 36 in at the sidelines and 34 in at the center — lower than a tennis net. It spans the full width of the court.
The lines. All lines are 2 in wide and count as part of the court they enclose (a ball on the line is in), except the non-volley zone line, which belongs to the kitchen.
Surface and materials
Outdoor courts are typically asphalt or concrete with an acrylic coating; indoor courts use wood or synthetic sports flooring. Lines must contrast with the surface color. Because the court is small, four pickleball courts can fit in roughly the space of one tennis court setup.
